Hi, I had a product liabilty situation and was suposed to die. My sons bought me a rescue horse that no one could handle. My prognosis was death due to severe organ and brain damage. That horse helped me in many ways. That was almost 20 years ago. I volunteered in horse assisted therapy programs and made up my own program for high risk kids with family problems. I took on a few rescue horses, retrained them and made up my own program which I supported on my Social Security. I certainly have lived longer than ever expected. I even learned to read and write well enough to return with a writer and reader to college for a new degree and career working with gang kids and families. Again, no funds, I supported the projects myself on my Social Security. I then got a cancer that has been associated with the same product liability cases. I had just started back to school for a second doctorate to get some credibility to build my programs into something where I could get paid. My point I think is that all the horses and kids and families that have been helped have helped me live almost 20 years longer. I think just doing something besides sitting around thinking about dying has kept me alive. Giving is something that helps the giver is my point I think.

Fir my 11th birthday instead of reciving presents from my friends and family I asked them all to bring dog/cat food and treats for the pets at our local shelter called Strayhaven. My friends and family ended up bringing about 30 pounds of food and 15 boxes of dog/cat food and treats. While we where we got to play with the dogs and cats and give them a few treats. I will never forget that birthday because it was my favorite. I hope my kids decide to do this one day because it was such a good expierence.

One time i found this little puppy on my door step.He was Crying Because a mountain lion had gotten him.And then I thought this animal only has one chance of life.Like your commercials I thought:Don’t Almost Give,GIVE. Thanks for caring

i once found a bird in my driveway, with one bashed up wing. The bird was going to die, there was nothing i could do about that. But, letting it suffer to death in the freezing cold would’ve made me feel awful. i got a cardboard box, a little bowl full of bird feed, some water, and carefully took the bird inside and put him in the box. i nurtured him as best as i could. like i predicted, a few days later he died. But it felt good knowing i helped the bird pass more… pleasantly.

My whole life I have been surrounded by animals. Even before I was born, my mom was rescuing cats around our neighborhood. For more than ten years, she has either kept and cared for cats, or found owners that could. Don’t turn your back on an animal, just because it used to live outside. Even the wildest of cats, can become the sweetest pets.

Hello my name is Caitlin and recently took a 3 year old German Shepard and Chow and black lab mix from a private shelter and turned out that she was physically abused she was scared of water ,plastic cups, she is also scared of boxes. I just cant believe that someone could actually hurt an animal so bad that it can hardly trust humans but she is now 7 years old and she has a big beautiful house to rome in everyday and a huge yard to rome in I love her to death she is my world!

When i was younger everynight befoe i went to bed i would always hear a meowing noise and i knew it was a stray cat but i also knew that my dad would never allow it. Well one day i thought about it what if i let the cat in at night time and put it back outside during the day so it would atleast have a place to sleep. so that noght i let the cat in snd slept with it then i Gave it some food and let it out the next day. It made me feel so good everynoght to give that cat a safe place to sleep for about a month then i took it to a shelter when my dad found out but i was glad to know that i saved an animals life and i didnt almost give [ I GAVe]

when i was younger i always heard a meowing noise every nigh i wnet to bed and i didnt know what it was. so one night when i heard it i went outside to find a strving cat that didnt have a home, so what i did was at night time i let it sleep in my house with me and i let it out during the day. I left food outside and inside so it would always have food and i think that no animal should be left starving because cats have feelings just like we do and we wouldnt like to be left out in the cold to starve and suffer everynight.

I worked security for several years with the Center for Anima, Care and Control in New York City. It is basically where people take their pets when they serve no further amusement or fun to them. Ladies and gentlemen..let me inform you all of this….pets, no matter how small or large, can only be who you allow them to be!!!!!! show them love…they give it right back!!!! I ended up adoptting a pit bull puppy from the CACC………greatest thing I ever did!!!!!!!

When I arrived at work this morning four Mallard ducks were splashing around in a puddle of melted snow at the spot where I normally park. I decided to let them have my spot, drove a wide circle around them, and parked elsewhere. When my co-worker arrived a short time later she noticed that my vehicle wasn’t parked in its normal spot, then she noticed the ducks and immediately realized what I had done. She also drove a wide circle around them so as not to disturb them. We enjoyed watching them from our office windows for the rest of the day. One pair of ducks has been here before, this year they brought some friends. When they are done with the puddle and move on I’ll get my parking spot back - until then they are such a joy to watch.

Almost 2 years ago I fell in love with a dog over 1000 miles away. Her name is Zoey and she had just been placed in an emergency rescue home after her owner decided “get rid of his problem for good”. My wife and I went through an interview process and two home inspections in order to assure that we would be a safe and suitable home for the frisky 1 1/2 year old. My wife and two of her friends drove 23 hours to Gulfport, Mississippi and brought Zoey home for good. Adopting Zoey was the best decision that we ever made. She has lived wth us for almost 2 years now (the longest that this dog has ever spent with any owner). She is truly loved and loves us back. Saved dogs and animals are a God send. All they want is a chance.

There are these two small kittens whwere I live. The are mostly outdoor cats. Since they don’t get fed by their owners much, I leave a clean dish of food and water each day of them.

Dear Leslie Dakin, What a wonderful thing you have done for that poor, unloved beagle! Please continue to do such wonderful acts of kindness for animals such as Abe. I truly hope Abe has a good long time left to be with you.

I volunteered at a pet rescue for over eight years, and for over five hundred hours. It was the most rewarding, unselfish, meaningful experience of my life.

The best part was the night that we got a new rescue named Mickey. He was so thin, all bones, with fleas and only the Lord knows what kinds of diseases. We usually weren’t allowed to touch new cats until the tests were done, because you never know what diseases the cat might be carrying or that could be passed on to my cats at home. But he was sitting in his cage, mewing and begging for someone to pet him. And I was worried and afraid but I sat on the floor, pulled him into my arms, and pet him for an hour, tears streaming down my face. He loved me. He started to get better, his wounds healed, and he was adopted, but not before we sang songs to him about how fine he really was.

I am a dog lover, and am proud to say that 2 of my 3 dogs are rescues. Having read the impounded animal notices in the paper, I went to the pound to look into a young dog rescued from the streets of Hartford. Once there, I observed what was obviously a very elderly beagle, just standing quietly in his concrete pen, looking out at me. I knew instantly that this was the dog I wanted to give a home to. The young dog that I had come to see would have no diffictly in being adopted as he was small and very pretty, but the elderly beagle was another matter. The animal control officer told me that the beagle had a neglectful owner, who had allowed this elderly dog to languish in a concrete enclosure several times in the past, each time showing up at the last possible moment before euthenasia was scheduled to reclaim the dog. That was all I needed to hear before I said that I wanted to adopt him. I just knew in my heart that I was supposed to have been there at the pound that day in order to see that dog. He was meant to go home with me. It took several days before I was allowed to adopt him–days when I prayed that I'’d be allowed to have him, days when I was nervous about the possability of him being reclaimed by the neglectful owner. However, one day in October I signed the adoption papers, gave him a new name, Abe, and brought him to my home. Abe now has a new blue fleece coat, his own bed right next to mine and has 2 brother dogs and 1 sister dog. I take them all for walks, feed them twice a day, play with them, and give out kisses and hugs to all 4 of them. Tonight I was rewarded with a tiny kiss from Abe, the first time he has so honored me. I an so glad that my gut told me to take Abe home. He is estimated to be 15 years old, and if he doesn’t have much time left, then I am going to make sure that he has quality time with lots of love and attention. In the future, I will make it a point to adopt senior dogs and will encourage others to do the same. Abe may be old, but he has made my family complete.

A few months ago, I became a vegetarian. I also put all my animal tested cosmetics/self-care products in a box and threw them away. The only milk I drink now is organic; the only eggs I eat directly are cage-free.

The conversion wasn’t hard. It liberated me.

I had one night, found a kitten on my doorstep, It meowed outside the door while I was watching a show with a cat, so I actually thought it was in the show. After so many meows, I put my show on pause, and had opened the door to find this lonely kitten. It acually stayed outside the door for at least an hour waiting, as if it was sent to me from god, and wouldn’t give up on his mission until I answered the door. I took the kitten into my home, and shortly after, found a warm loving home for it.

All animals deserve food, warmth and love. If you find an animal like I had without any of these things, please find them a home, if not your own. People are always looking to add new members to the family, and animals can really connect with people, and give you that love back in return. Don’t just turn your head on these animals, and get involved.

Thanks for listening
