Special Olympics
Special Olympics is an international non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. Offering year round training in summer and winter Olympic-style sports, the Special Olympics has grown to serve more than 2.25 million people in over 200 programs around the world annually. Programs help participants improve their physical fitness and motor skills and give them self-confidence and a positive self-image. Not to mention, grow mentally, socially and spiritually. Most importantly, the program has come to be recognized as not just a "nice" sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities, but as an effective catalyst for social change.
